Tao Gu ha lavorato come presentatore radiofonico per cinque anni prima di diventare un regista di teatro d’avanguardia e regista sperimentale.

Tra i suoi film Butterfly Dream (2007) e On the Way to the Sea.

On the Way to the Sea è stato presentato a Sundance 2011.
